My handyman husband

Remember in one of my previous posts I referred to Marty as Magic Hands? Let me explain how he orginally got the nickname. The knob broke off our old washing machine when we were still living in our apartment, so about 2 1/2 years ago. Same thing happened to the dryer knob and he fixed them both. I teased him and started to call him Magic Hands because he can repair just about anything with nearly nothing. The nickname has stuck, especially when something breaks or I want something built. More on the building things...

I was looking for a shoe shelf something-or-another and noticed they were $20-$30. That's crap for partical board junk! Marty stopped by Home Depot and purchased a sheet of plywood for $20 and made four of these (there are two in the picture) AND a small TV stand:

I can see my closet floor now thanks to Mr. Magic Hands.

Yesterday was Marty's 30th birthday. He requested lemon meringue pie with lots of spikey things. What the man wants, the man gets.

He's been sick for a few days, so we took it easy and just went to see Quantum of Solace (new Bond movie) last night. I told him we could have a birthday weekend for him since he wasn't feeling well. He wanted to go to the International Motorcycle Show, so that's what we did today as part of his birthday present. I have to admit, there were some pretty awesome bikes there. Of course, being the wonderful husband he is, he took me to Northpark Mall after the expo.

Today was a chilly day in Fort Worth too. Don't call me the crazy lady when it comes to putting clothes on my dogs. They LOVE wearing clothes. They prance around the house and I know they're trying to tell us "look at me, I'm so pretty."

Back to the manly man husband of mine. What was he doing while I was typing all of this? Cleaning his rifle.

Last 2nd Trimester Picture

I cannot believe it. I think I say that every week. But I'll be in the 3rd trimester in a matter of days. Time needs to slow down!
We'll be pretty busy in the coming weeks. Busy for us, that is. Marty's 30th birthday is this Friday. We don't have anything planned. He's requested a lemon meringue birthday pie instead of cake. The man will get what he wants. The following weekend he will be celebrating the big 3-0 with his closest friends. They will be going to Laredo for a man weekend of hunting. Guns, beer, and wild animals. What man wouldn't love that? Not to worry, I have a responsible husband, he won't mix the beer and guns.
Marty's nephew, Micah, will be flying in that weekend also. He's 16 and is planning on joining the Marine Corps. Everyone is so very proud of him for making the decision at such a young age. Marty signed the papers days after his 17th birthday. They see where he is today and couldn't be happier about his decision. Micah is excited about his trip since this will be the first time travelling alone. He wants to be a pilot one day, so I know he's going to enjoy the flight.
We will be going home for Thanksgiving. We have to bring Micah back home and the baby shower is the Saturday after! I'm excited to see everyone again. We haven't been home since August, so it's time.
I've been a busy girl doing research on cloth diapers. We went to the cloth diapering class last week. We decided what diapers and how many of each we wanted. Well, a few days later I showed Marty some pictures of diapers a family friend made. My husband has convinced me to make my own diapers. The ones at the diaper store run about $15-$20 depending on style and brand. Making my own would cost around $10-$13 per diaper. I ordered the pattern for the same diapers my friend makes. Marty took me to Joann and Hancock Fabrics where we found most of the items I need. I have to order the waterproof material online and I'm good to go. I found some awesome iron-ons that you will all have to wait and see. I really hope this whole diaper sewing thing works out because Jack is going to look awesome with that fluffy bum.
More excellent, wonderful, great, and big news! I do NOT have gestational diabetes! I laughed on the phone with the nurse and asked her if she was serious about the results. I think I've been so worried about not passing because of measuring big. My u/s is scheduled for the 25th to check on that.

Jack has been moving more and more these days. He's an active little guy. He likes to wake me up in the middle of the night. There's also nothing like needing to use the bathroom while you're waiting to have fabric cut at Joann and get a nice big jab to the bladder.

Big baby?

I went in for a routine OB visit yesterday along with having my blood drawn for the glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. Everything has been fine so far. No worries about my weight gain, no high blood pressure, no swelling, nada. Then the doctor measured me. She felt for the top of my uterus and said I'm measuring big. She mentioned a couple of reasons which were the baby could be big or it could be polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid). I'm scheduled for an ultrasound for my next appointment in 3 weeks to see what could be the reason. I Googled polyhydramnios, but if she's not too worried, I'm not going to worry myself.

I should know by next week if I have GD. If I do have it, he could just be a big baby and that's why I'm measuring big. We'll find out soon. I'm glad I get to see our little guy again. I hope and pray it's nothing major. Please say a prayer for us!

I wanted to post a picture of our one lone tree. It took on such a pretty color in a matter of days. I had to snap a picture before the wind blew all the leaves off.

Marty comes home today too. Yay!

25 Weeks and the latest

So our lives aren't that exciting. We're a fairly boring couple but find our own day to day life pretty exciting since we get to share it with each another. All together now...awww.

Marty and I went out for an afternoon date last weekend. He took me a few places I wanted to go and even stepped into a Starbucks next to Ulta and ordered us both some coffee. While we were there I mentioned we should go by Williams-Sonoma to check out one of the pans I've been wanting. I want the entire set, but it's just not in the budget. I have one small French skillet, but I was in desparate need for a larger one to replace my sad sad Sam's bargain pan. It's possible to fall in love with cookware, believe me. That's what happened right in front of my husband as I picked up this gorgeous 4 qt saute pan and drooled over it. He must have noticed the sparkle in my eye as I flipped through to make sure it wasn't something in the set I want. He told the salesman to bring one out for us. It was like Christmas day the year I got my bike

I had to cook some chicken parmesan to test it out. Nothing sticks to this bad boy. It's not even non-stick! Enough about the awesome pan.

Sunday was the Randy Travis concert. So so so exciting to see such an amazing artist. Randy Travis live was even better than listening to his albums. Not just because of the atmosphere, he's just that good. Marty and I got a big kick out of hearing the first few notes of a song and looking at each other surprised that we recognized most of them. Jack must have enjoyed it too, because he was kicking around. We knew the concert was coming to an end, but something terrible happened. Okay, it was terrible for the pregnant lady, quite hilarious to her husband. My shoe, a flip flop, broke. Oh my gosh. I had the deer in headlights look, I know. Marty was cracking up as I'm in a panic over having to walk barefoot to the car. Mr. Magic Hands to the rescue! (Yeah, I call him Magic Hands because he can fix just about anything with nearly nothing.) He quickly pulled a spare keyring off my keychain and made my shoe wearable again, all through "Forever and ever, Amen." He saved the day and we laughed about it on the way home.

Tuesday Marty had to leave for a flight. He doesn't travel much these days. Just enough to keep his hours up quarterly. I miss him. I especially miss him when things bad happen. Okay, here comes a woe is me moment. I hate that bad things seem to always happen when he's gone. Like the dog digging out of our yard. I was almost in tears because I could not think straight. I went across the street and our neighbor jumped the fence and found Rayleigh crouched down beside a mound of dirt. They're building a house behind us, so I think she was confused by there not being another yard. He blocked the gap with a huge rock. Let's hope that doesn't happen again along with anything else "bad."

So, a wonderful thing happened Wednesday. I've been trying to make a point of looking down at my belly when Jack starts moving. He started his morning wiggling and I quickly looked down and saw a little thump! How exciting! Later on that day he was doing some bouncing around because I saw my belly wiggle side to side as he went left to right and back. Amazing.

I try to keep busy when he's gone too. I went shopping Friday with a friend and found a baby book. I wasn't too pleased with it so headed to Babies R Us and found one that I was much happer with. Must be the crazy pregnancy hormones, because I teared up with each one I picked up. It's not like me to cry over things like a book, a BLANK book at that. I just thought about sitting down and filling it all in and it just made those tears want to escape. Then it hits me...we're going to have a baby soon. Anyhow, we have a baby book!

I think that's about all of the excitement of the week. *Yawn* I know. Here is the big 25 weeks picture.

I have another doctor's appointment Tuesday where I will be downing the orange drink for the dreaded glucose test. Eh, I'm not worried about having to down the overly sweet drink. I just want to pass the test. Marty should be home Wednesday! Thursday we plan on going to the cloth diapering class, so I'm excited about that too.

15ish weeks left, yikes!
